  • Breast Cancer - Breast cancer is a dominant fear for many women. Fortunately, it’s also largely a preventable disease with the right diet and a healthy lifestyle. Contrary to what most people hope for, early detection by mammography causes more harm than good. Radical surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy are brutal remedies universally prescribed to women with breast cancer, yet they provide little survival benefit. Hormone manipulation is of some value, however the best and most overlooked approach for treating breast cancer is a change in diet and exercise.
  • Pregnancy & Children - Pregnancy and children are two of the most sensitive subjects in nutrition. Many parents would be prepared to dramatically change their own diets, but not take the perceived risk of doing so with their child. If concern for your child’s health is a priority, then now is the time to change their diets because rapidly growing bodies are the ones most likely to suffer from the adverse consequences of too much fat, protein, cholesterol and environmental chemicals. Human breast milk is ideal and should be the exclusive diet until six months of age, and then part of the baby’s nutrition until age two. At six months, solid foods (like cooked starches and fresh fruits) can be started and then become an increasing part of the baby’s diet. Vegetables are added along the way. Following these simple rules of breastfeeding and good foods will mean a reduced risk of infections, hospitalizations, bowel diseases, constipation, precocious puberty, acne and obesity. Children with better diets will also be more intelligent, healthier and stronger. The ideal diet for young growing children, including adolescents, is based on starches with the addition of fruits and vegetables. When necessary, heightened calorie needs can be met with the addition of more dried fruits, nuts, seeds and avocados.

  • Women's Health is More Than Gynaecology - Dr. Linda Carney - Ironically, hunger is what has driven our culture into many of the chronic health problems we suffer. The rich Western diet filled with meat, eggs, cheese, other dairy products, and refined foods (like pastries and slices of crusty French bread dipped in olive oil) overloads our system with factors which cause our body to produce excess levels of estrogen inside us.
  • Menstrual Cramping and Heavy Periods - Dr. Linda Carney - According to a research study presented in the February 2000 issue of Obstetrics & Gynaecology a low-fat, vegan diet “significantly reduced pain and PMS for many women.” Painful menstrual cramping and heavy periods can be largely attributed to chemicals called prostaglandins. The fat stored in our cell membranes produce these chemicals which promote inflammation. Prostaglandins are also associated with the constriction of blood vessels, blood clotting, muscle contractions, and pain. Therefore, reducing the levels of prostaglandins also reduces the intensity and flow of a woman's menstrual cycle.
  • Using Foods Against Menstrual Pain - PCRM.org - Most women experience some menstrual pain. For up to 15 percent, it is severe enough to interfere with work and other activities for one or more days every month.
  • Plant-based diets for the treatment of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome - Robyn Chuter - PCOS is believed to affect up to 1 in 10 women of reproductive age. It is the most common cause of female infertility, since women with PCOS either only ovulate occasionally, or not at all.
